I first used these screws a few years ago when making a raised light box in our kitchen. To be honest I was blown away by the holding power they have. The big head is great, no washer required. I still drill pilot holes because I think the wood is better for less splitting. I've just started building folding workbenches for my garage to use to attach brackets to wall studs. By re-drilling the pilot holes, these screws dig in and are strongly tightened. I have to be careful that they don't bend the brace when they come in with so much force.
