Review on E Z Red SP101 Battery Hydrometer by Jared Poinson

I'm officially blind so reading 48 cells in my battery backup system to see if I need to balance each month is a real must. I would buy a digital meter if they were available. Sigh. This meter is very easy to read. However, it is very important that you develop a little skill to get reproducible readings (this also applies to all other hydrometers, by the way). What I've found is that I have to charge/discharge 2-3 times (to make sure I've mixed the battery fluid), gently hold it upright, maybe tap lightly and WAIT for the mechanism to settle down. The liquid is so thick that it takes a few seconds to settle. Make sure there are no bubbles on the measuring wheel. In summary, this device does not eliminate the difficulty of getting repeatable and accurate readings, but it does make it much easier for you to see the readings. Don't buy this if you think you can just dive in and read. Sorry, this requires skill development like other hydrometers. If you can't return to the cell and get the same reading as the first time, continue to develop your skills until your reading is consistent. The product delivers what it promises: it makes the value easier to read.
