later I should have known these couldn't be fantastically good chisels for the price. I work with wood mainly for personal use in my house and have built some pine shelving for the pantry. I made them from 1 x 12 pine with quite a few knots. I cut the grooves for the shelves in the side boards with a circular saw and then removed the saw cuts with these chisels. I didn't use a hammer or mallet, I just hammered the chisel in by hand. Chisels worked well in clean, plain jaws, but once they got into knots, the edge dulled. You can actually see where the steel is "pinned" and slightly curved along the edge. These chisels work well on softwood, but have a whetstone or bench grinder handy when working with hardwood or knotty planks. These bits are definitely not for professionals, but they are definitely suitable for homeowners.
