Review on StarTech.com RK1236BKF 12U AV Rack Cabinet - Network Rack with Glass Door - 19 inch Computer Cabinet for Server Room or Office by Loud Forrest

Good consumer choice

I bought this case to replace an APC 42U enterprise server rack in my home office. Despite Revain's terrible delivery services. And the delivery driver literally threw the cabinet off the truck, I almost expected the cabinet door to break. Even so, fewer of the blank instruction manual and missing bag of rack nuts survived in the closet. I was able to download the instructions online. Building the case was easy and the case is well made with a few exceptions. Coming from a standard enterprise chassis all rails are usually pre-configured to around 30" to make room for standard rack servers, in this case 16" were installed. Adjustment is usually easy, however mounting rails do not have preset adjustment points, they move on an adjustable slide bolt and nut mount. This meant I had to adjust and use a tape measure to fit the splints properly. Also, the mounting rails weren't traditional U-brackets, they were oddly S-shaped. This worked great for my new Dell servers with quick release rails. However, I have an older R300 that acts as a home security device that has reversible attachment points on the ends of the rails and the mounting rail fits into the decoupling rail lugs. I ended up using pliers to flatten Dell's factory detents for attaching the server rails. Lastly, Startech could have put more thought into the case back inserts, there are three of them, they are a bit flimsy and don't quite fit the supplied screws. I ended up using smaller metric screws to attach the panels. This is the reason for only four stars. For the money this is a really good case. We recommend.
