I got it to replace a similar bag I had for several years. I use this to save miscellaneous. Items in my car (swiss army knife, bottle of ibuprofen, lip balm, eye drops, etc.). It fits perfectly in the console's small storage compartment. I had a light tarp with a plastic/rubber backing. Over time the pad broke and fell apart so I wanted to replace it. This bag is heavy canvas which should make it even more durable. It doesn't have an inset (I don't need one, but I'll mention it in case anyone is wondering if there is one). It also has an outer/thin zip section. The design is superb - no protruding threads, the zippers are strong too. Although I didn't buy it to carry pencils, given its solid construction and durable material, it should be more than enough for the job. Very satisfied!
