They are ideal for repairing some low voltage outdoor lights. The springs in the old sockets seemed to be stuck and I couldn't put the new bulbs in. They fit perfectly and worked well. They don't have a bar cover over the insulation, but what appears to be silicone rubber material is used. which lets practically no heat through. I applied the soldering iron directly to the insulation for 20-30 seconds and there was no burn out or deformation. The wire gauge was thinner than the connector I replaced, but that shouldn't matter for such a short distance. I mainly use them for LED bulbs, which use less power and produce less heat than 20w halogen bulbs.
