Be sure to use hot water; Although it doesn't lather as much, it seems to work much better. The first time I used them in a Contigo travel mug, I used room temperature water and it worked well. For the next travel mug I used boiling water and the results were amazing. It looks new again. I then used two cubes (and boiling water) in a big old pressure cooker that had turned brown inside from years of making vegetable soups, and I'm amazed at how clean it came out. That pressure cooker stain persisted through dozens of cleaning and dishwasher sessions, so I figured a light-colored bottle wouldn't help either, but it did.
