Review on ๐Ÿ”ณ Hunter Fan Company 99375 Universal Wall Control for Indoor Ceiling Fans in White by William Mahajan

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not much attention to detail on this product

We recently purchased two Hunter AVIA II ceiling fans from another supplier. They came with hand held remotes but we prefer wall mounted controls and Revain had the best price so we bought a pair of Hunter 99375 Universal Wall Mounted Ceiling Fan Controls. To my surprise each unit consists of a controller (that's what I was expecting) and a suitable wireless receiver, which should be connected to the fan itself (this would explain why Hunter says it can be used with any ceiling fan). I already had the receiver, so now I have "spare parts". As Hunter/Revain only offer a receiver only kit (Hunter 99106) please note that 99375 contains 99106 - Revain does not make this clear. The controls are easy to install although I have to say the instructions are vague so if you don't like working with electricity you can ask an experienced friend or a professional electrician to do the job. The controller pairs with the included receiver, but pairing the controller with a different receiver is just as easy: press and hold the fan on/off and light on/off buttons for a few seconds until the LEDs on the controller blink a few times and the fan/light comes on (the manual omits this part, but thanks, Jasper from Canada). The control is easier to use than the manual remote control that comes with the fan, especially when the light level changes. I haven't seen any of the light dimming issues that others have complained about. I agree with other reviewers that having an actual switch built into the controller to provide AC power to the fan, as well as the need for batteries to operate the controller, is confusing and Hunter really should make that clear in their instructions. As long as the fan itself has power for the [included] wireless receiver, the controller can control the fan/light functions with its batteries, and you can install the controller anywhere - no need to power the controller. However, if the circuit for the fan runs through the electrical box where you are installing the controller (probably if you are replacing/upgrading an existing fan) and you follow Hunter's instructions and connect the controller's power switch, then the on/off/ The Up/Down and Fan On/Off/Up/Down controls only work if the power button on the controller is also enabled. There may be a good reason the device works this way - as a buyer of the product, I'd love to hear it. I would also like to know how long the batteries in the controller would last, and I think Hunter should have come up with a better solution than periodically opening the switch box just to change the batteries - user-serviceable components should be accessible from the front be. The device has an ETL certificate (security); turning off the circuit breaker in the switch box where the controller is installed without warning before attempting to change the battery I doubt. There is a URL in the instructions for people having trouble installing multiple remote controlled fans on the same device. circuit breaker. URL not working. The screws for the white mounting plate are bare metal. Basically I'm satisfied with the controllers, but compared to Hunter fan products there is no comparison. Update (09/2021): It's been almost 18 months and recently the fan light has been flashing sporadically - not often, once an hour or so, but it was annoying. I watched YouTube repair tips - many complicated procedures. Then I remembered the batteries in the controller behind the wall panel. I replaced them and the blinking stopped. So before you go down the controller repair rabbit hole, I suggest you put in a new set of batteries and see if that fixes your controller problem.
