Review on Garmin Forerunner 10 GPS Watch (Black/Red) by Flavio Iyer

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great running watch with GPS. The only area that could be improved is the battery life.

I'm a long-distance runner, but I never take my phone with me I don't need to buy a Garmin Forerunner 10. However, since I prefer to just run without my phone (because it makes me feel unbalanced), I decided I needed a real watch with GPS to track distances and time intervals. The Garmin Forerunner does that perfectly, or almost perfectly. Other reviewers note that the watch takes a long time to pick up a signal in urban areas like New York - that's definitely true from what I've seen. However, I made use of the 1-2 minutes it takes the GPS to stretch and mentally prepare for my runs, so a little lag doesn't really bother me. I've never lost GPS signal while running, even on cloudy days. The GPS tracking on this watch is extremely accurate - I ran 10km last weekend and this watch tracked to within 0.02 miles (for the entire 10km). . Very impressive, and thanks to Garmin for that. I can be sure that my time/distance data is indeed very accurate. However, the battery life decreases a bit. 4 hours doesn't seem like enough battery life for a watch aimed at serious runners. I haven't run out of battery while running, but what about people who want to run ultramarathons? Poor battery life can be an issue in this case (although this only affects a very small group of users). The newer model (Forerunner 15) appears to be addressing the battery life issue, although other reviews suggest that turning on the GPS still takes a long time around town.

Cons
