Review on ☕ Technivorm Moccamaster 79112 KBT Coffee Brewer: Enhanced Brewing Excellence in Polished Silver, 40 oz Capacity by Michael Lucas

We bought this coffee maker to replace a Bonavita coffee maker that had been in use for about 6 years before the water tank cracked from the heat and started leaking. Firstly, this coffee maker works perfectly, but the small parts make this very expensive machine not worth the price. The first is the water tank cover and the brew basket cover. The plastic looks cheap. Closing the gas cap requires some effort, but I think it would be better with a flip-top cap that is easy to open and close. The brew basket lid is another thing to put on before brewing coffee. The Bonavita has a flip top water tank lid and attached brew basket lid. Also, the brew basket doesn't sit flat on the counter. So when you put your coffee in, you have to be careful not to push it or it will make a mess. I tried filling it while it was in the basket holder but the water dispenser lever is in the way. Second is the power button. You have to disable it manually. The boiler will turn off automatically when the tank is empty, but the power indicator will remain on until you turn off the switch. If you fill the water tank while the switch is on, dispensing will start automatically. Bonavita has a spring-loaded switch that turns off automatically when the job is done. Third, the height of the coffee maker is a little high. When you have closets overhead, it's a little annoying. Fourth, the carafe won't pour well if you try to pour too quickly. It splashes everywhere and there is always coffee left over at the edge. For a $300 machine that only makes coffee, it should be near perfect, but it's not. There shouldn't be anything cumbersome or cheap about it. If this coffee maker lasts 15 years, it might be worth the price, but I highly doubt it.
