Review on 🌬️ Whynter Elite ARC-122DS 12,000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner, Dehumidifier, Fan with Activated Carbon Filter & Storage Bag: Ideal for Rooms up to 400 sq ft, Multi-Purpose by Paula Whalen

Air conditioner (Whynter Elite ARC-122DS) failed in less than 8 months. The device was purchased to cool a small server cabinet and was selected for its two-hose function. For this purpose it worked well and I was happy with the device for a while. However, after about 7 1/2 months of operation, the unit inexplicably began to shut down and did not provide adequate cooling while in use. I contacted Whynter support to see if they had any advice and they advised me to remove the back cover to check for loose connections or other issues. When I pulled the air conditioner out of the closet to follow their recommendations, I immediately noticed that the evaporator coil was rusted. I removed the back cover and was shocked to see how much corrosion I found on the spool. I know enough about how air conditioning works to understand that the condensation that forms inevitably leads to some degree of corrosion. Given that air conditioners have been built for many, many decades, Wynter should be aware of the need to use components that are resistant to corrosion. It is unacceptable that so much corrosion has formed in such a short time. In addition, the device was installed in a building where the air is conditioned by the main air conditioning units, so the humidity is already quite low. This means that the system has to produce less condensate than in an unconditioned location. Because of this, I believe the components used to build this device are substandard at best. When I sent photos of my find to Whynter Support, they asked me to send the unit in for repair. After paying for the shipping packaging of the device plus the actual shipping costs for the device, this repair costs around 75% of the original purchase price. Overall I like the dual hose functionality and I rarely (maybe never) find single hose systems to be used. But due to the rapid failure of the unit I received I would advise caution to anyone looking for Whynter cooling equipment.
