Great news! NO thread lock on the spray tip!

A lot of reviews talk about how difficult it is to remove the spray tip. Some call it a spray nozzle, a spray cap and other things. The manufacturer did NOT put thread lock on the ones I received. I was able to take it off without any difficulty. It was tight but not too tight. I took everything apart and washed it in hot, soapy water. Collected and filled with hot water. Adjusted the template and it did a great job with the cardboard. I have a project and I will be photographing all the water based products. primer, varnish and poly. I was surprised at the weight of the gun. I was expecting it to be plastic or a pan. Nice. The instructions are practically useless. I love that it says to contact them if there is a problem, but nowhere on the sheet is there an address, phone number or website. Most importantly, if this gun can handle my little project, I'm happy. I don't plan on using it much after that. I have a regular suction gun (Binks Model 7) but it sprays too much. The paint is expensive, so it was used with the HVLP pistol. I will update my review after I complete the project. (Got it? Done! LOL) 05/28/2018 - So far so good. Made a new countertop for my kitchen. I plan on painting them black and then coating them with polyurethane. Yesterday I sprayed a shellac primer from Zinsser to seal the end grain. It's quite a flimsy material and the 1.5 tip gun did the job perfectly. This morning I sanded the tops and applied a coat of a water based high filler primer. Thicker material but not as dense as latex. The gun did it. Not great but okay. This left the texture quite rough. However, it should be easy to sand. I have a problem with a gun. It flows around the threads where the air cap is screwed on. You know, the colored outer ring. It was a small leak and after a while the primer would build up and leak. At first I didn't understand where it came from and thought I had dripped sweat on the surface. In the next layer I will use thread tape to see if that helps. Also, DO NOT hold the gun by the grip when placing the plastic cap on the glass. The cup bends at the joint and can break off. Instead, hold the cup like a cognac sniffer. When not drinking brandy, raise your palm and slide the cup between your ring and ring fingers. This will hold the cup and allow you to put the cap on without putting pressure on the hinge. The photo shows the countertop after the first coat of primer has been applied. 05/28/2018 - Apply a second coat of primer and use tape on the air cap. No leaks. The gun worked fine. The nib size (1.5) is a bit small for the foundation I use (60 seconds on a Zahn #4 cup) so I diluted it with some water. Flow, pattern and air pressure are easily adjustable. The gun has a pressure of 40 psi, with the trigger pulled 30 psi. 05/28/2018 β€” The third and final primer is sanded. Then he pulled the trigger, so to speak, and fired at the first black layer. Judging by the photo, it's not such a big task. No problems with the gun, I just had no experience with this type of paint. I shot nitro paint by the gallon in the 70's and 80's. This is a water based acrylic paint and this is a different color cat. The manufacturer says this product does not need to be diluted, but I disagree. I've tried different settings for the weapon, but nothing good has come of it. I will dilute the next layer with water until a good flow is achieved. Tomorrow I will sand with 400 grit and apply a second coat. 05/30/2018 - Yesterday I sanded off most of the first coat of paint and applied another coat of thinned paint. Made a big difference. The color is much better and lays down much smoother. This morning I sanded lightly to remove bugs and dirt and applied a second coat. The gun did a great job with diluted paint. Tomorrow I will apply the third and final coat, let it dry, sand and start on the clear coats. This weapon rusts very easily. After each use, I disassemble the gun and wash it with soap and water. Collect clean water, pass it through, and then let it dry upside down. I noticed rust on the mug and inside the gun. Now I spray about an ounce of denatured alcohol. The alcohol blows most of the water out of the gun and then quickly evaporates, leaving the gun clean and dry. This seems to have solved the rust problem. 06/02/2018 - I ran into a problem. Not with a gun, but with a tabletop. The seam is visible where I joined the two pieces. I will sand this part and fill the seam. This was not the case with the primer, but after sanding the color coat I saw a faint streak. This is really visible after the transparent film is applied. The gun is still rusting despite the steps I have taken to prevent it. I live in the south and it's always muggy here. Today the humidity is 85%. I think it causes rust and I don't know how to prevent it. It's good that I don't plan to use this weapon after this project. 06/17/2018 - Done! I am very happy with the table top and the performance of the gun. It's not the best gun out there, but it's not the worst either. For casual use this is a good gun and I would buy it again.
