Even with an expensive multimeter. The problem with these types of batteries is that they quickly drop from their initial charge and then reach a state of charge (voltage) at which they remain until almost completely discharged. Phones like this only show 3 bars (full) about 1/2 a day. Then show 2 bars for about 1/2 more days. Then show 1 bar for 6, 7, 8 days etc. See? that is the point. The counter (display - columns) does not accurately show the remaining amount of charge. And that's because with NiMh batteries it's basically impossible to tell. So if you see it only drop to 1 bar after a day or so and think it needs to be recharged and put back in the stand, you are seriously reducing battery life by creating a memory effect and/or the batteries charge MUCH more often than necessary. Here's what I would suggest; Buy eneloop 750 mAh AAA batteries (they have twice the capacity of factory batteries). I would also suggest getting a good charger (for AA and AAA) like La Crosse that Revain sells. You can refresh the batteries if necessary or have spare parts ready when they are empty. DO NOT put the device back into the base, leave it OUTSIDE the base. My current eneloop batteries lasted 6 full days, not much talk time (5 to 10 minutes) and will probably last a few more days. I will only replace freshly charged batteries when it indicates a low battery. But what is the point of these 6 days? 5 of them said 1 BAR! Do you see how inaccurate that is? This is a function of the batteries, it is impossible to accurately measure the remaining charge. Don't trust the counter. You need to fully charge your phone, then pick up the phone and count how many days are left before the battery dies. This is the only way to accurately measure (and correctly replace) battery life. All other phone features for my device have been great. Great sound, call blocking, caller ID, everything works great. It's good that you don't have to jump up and run after a wired phone that doesn't have caller ID! I look forward to blocking spammers. I used to have a cordless phone but the battery confused me and they were expensive! Dead batteries. But now with AAA and a separate (AC) charger and (now) realizing the meter isn't accurate, I've been looking forward to this phone for a long time.
