I no longer have to waste time looking for my keys, purse, cell phone or even my mischievous cat (I only attach it to his collar when I know he's in one of his moods). Now I just keep pressing the buttons as I walk through the house or yard and I can easily hear the squeak of the stray item. As for the cat, once it hears the signal from its collar, it will return home immediately. But it only has a short range, so anything within 30 feet or more won't be able to receive a signal from the remote. So if you are in the habit of leaving things with the neighbors or at the store, then this is not what you need.
