Our fountain contains some iron so yellow stains will appear on the lines over time. We installed a Pentek filter and this cartridge is very effective in reducing small amounts of iron so we no longer have the problem of piping discoloration. Depending on your water usage, it will take around 6-9 months to replace and it's worth it to avoid iron damage. We also installed a large Pentek particulate filter in front of the iron filter to increase service life. Now our water is crystal clear.
