Excellent range for home use, from the garden to the home. We use it for family members with disabilities to stay connected and seek help. One unit in a 3-pack broke down (speaker defect) within a month of purchase. The support immediately sent another device without any problems. The devices operate on Federal Reserve frequencies and transmit at 2W or 0.5W depending on the channel - it is possible to get a connection through the scanners. These aren't private intercoms, these are real walkie-talkies. The support team is very kind to help with "privacy" tones/codes customization options that will help reduce overlap between others using the same channel as your family (this requires a special programming cable and software installation, but it is doable). I definitely recommend them for personal and business use in malls, shops, beaches and parks. very good overview and good range with the possibility of reprogramming for more individual business use. It's the only model I've seen that's small, portable, and looks like a Star Trek communicator badge. :)
