I made this to solve a simple problem: I now have more USB peripherals than USB ports on my work laptop. This solved the problem and cost about $15. That should be enough, but this hub has a few extra nice features that set it apart from others I've used in the past. Each USB port can be enabled/disabled manually or individually. So you don't have to disable anything to disable it; just turn off the switch. When you're ready to plug it back in, simply flip the switch to the "on" position. In addition, all ports are USB 3.0, which is much faster than USB 2.0. Many hubs sold today only support USB 2.0 or have a combination of USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports. You may not care which USB 2.0 or 3.0 ports you have; That's not for me. In fact, unless you connect an external drive to a hub, you can't tell if the port is 2.0 or 3.0. The only difference between these two specs is speed, but an external drive is the only thing that will let you notice the difference. Keyboards, mice, and a smart card reader — pretty much anything I use my USB ports for — work just as well with 2.0 because they don't need the extra speed of 3.0.
