If you've never knitted anything other than scarves, potholders or maybe hats, I wouldn't recommend this book unless you want to learn a few new ones first. Technique as for knitters with little experience. In addition to basic skills in casting on/hole punching, knitting, purling and increasing/decreasing on knit and purl rows, stockinette and garter stitch, you need to know things like casting on more stitches at the end of a row, bundling and slipping , PSSO , off. (winding and turning), loop stitch, I-cord, colored weaving (fair technique - working with more than one color at a time), intarsia and knitting in short rows. You need to hold the stitches and use them later. There are lots of good videos on YouTube for learning these things and anyone with sock knitting experience probably knows this book and won't have too many problems with this book. Some dogs have as many as 10 pieces that need to be adjusted and sewn together (and some need modification to fit better), so you should be able to make it just like French eye knots. Again, none of this is difficult, but you may need to learn how to do it if you don't already know. I've seen many posts on various sites from frustrated knitters having trouble with these patterns, but mostly it's knitters who don't know the technique, not the books. I am an avid sock knitter, have been knitting for 50 years and have had no problems but a less experienced knitter can have them. The big warning with this book and the other volumes is: there are MANY errors depending on which edition you get, so before you pull your hair out trying to knit a two-headed Irish Setter, please check the internet for typographical errors to correct patterns. I found a few more bugs that haven't been fixed yet, so you need to be able to work with a pattern that might have a bug or two. What annoys me the most about this book is that ALL the patterns are only given with Rowan brand yarn which is very expensive and I wouldn't be inclined to invest money to make little stuffed dogs. If you want to spend $15 for a 25g skein of Rowan Kidsilk Haze mohair yarn, be my guest! The author does not provide any patterns or measurements and everything speaks of US size 2 needles. So if you are not using Rowan you will need to be able to adapt to other yarns that may or may not be similar to the Rowan brand. One suggestion I can make is that any sock or finger yarn, such as Paton lace, will work well with the expensive baby silk yarn commonly used. I used all the yarn from my stash for these dogs and I used double knitting needles - you will need them for part I of the cord anyway so get them if you don't already have them as long needles or circular needles are stupid. with little things like that. Knitted is DK or worsted yarn in size 2. I am also annoyed that the author refers to the names of mountain ash blossoms in the pattern, So instead of just saying "black and white" or "brown and gray" or whatever, you have to deal with the abbreviation for the mountain ash color name, which can be confusing. . She does offer a chopstick to help pack up the padding, but I found the eraser on the end of a standard pencil worked much better. There are only photos of finished dogs, several of each, but no photos showing tricky parts of knitting or knitting. Gather and stuff the dogs, and some of the instructions are a bit vague. This book would benefit greatly from such step-by-step photos. In order for the dogs to turn out really beautiful and genuine for breeding, you need to tweak something on your part, and many of them will look better if you distinguish the "plumage” from her.
