I have used an unbranded filter in the past or have had the filter replaced by my heating and air conditioning company (they also use an unbranded filter) when it comes to maintenance out. I've always noticed that the filters I buy have different filter compartment sizes. They are 1/4-1/2 inch shorter than they should be which leaves an air gap and the filter sits slightly askew, pushing air past it. I always thought my filter box was too big. It turns out that many other manufacturers' filters cheat and supply a slightly smaller filter instead of 20 x 25 x 5 inches, which I think is a cost-cutting measure. This time I bought a Honeywell filter and it fit right into the filter compartment. I will never go back to any other brand.
