it's very cheaply built yes. It seems very fragile, yes. But the main reason I bought this and am happy with it is that you can use your own microfiber towels and rags. I use high quality microfiber towels to clean car windows/windshields and bathroom mirrors. All other equivalent items will not work with any other towels, only the one that came with the unit. So it's pretty flimsy and unreliable, but it's the only option if you want to use your own microfiber cleaning cloths.
