Review on Xerox C405 DN MultiFunction Replenishment by Tim Toscano

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Small Office Printer

We bought this printer/scanner to replace a rented printer/scanner in my office as we have gone paperless and now print very little paper. Xerox has been a good product for me in the past and so far seems like a good choice. Note that if you enter the administrator password incorrectly multiple times, you will run into problems as this will lock you out of the device and you will need to pay Xerox technicians to help you. The documentation says the password is 1111 or 11111, but it's out of date. This is the machine serial number which would have been good to know before I had to lock it and pay to unlock it. Firstly, charging customers for unlocking their own car is not good. This policy at Xerox needs to change. Now, setting up the device is no longer daunting once you log into the management console, but some knowledge is required if you want to set up print to email or print to folder. It's best to let the device connect to the network via DHCP rather than setting a static IP address, it just won't work even if you enter the IP address, subnet and gateway manually. Scanning to email is also tricky as you need to know the SMTP relay based on your email and all the settings like port numbers, SSL etc. It's not difficult for an IT professional, but not for a typical business owner. All in all it seems to be working fine after a few hours of installation and rebooting the machine dozens of times whenever you make a change. For users: Download the Xerox app from the Microsoft Store and let it automatically search and configure the network.
