Review on Monocular Telescope Smartphone Waterproof Watching by Kayla Guzman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

At this price you can hardly go wrong. Phone mount is so-so but works.

First of all I wouldn't call it a telescope. The spotting scope is probably more visual. You will not see the moons of Jupiter or the rings of Saturn. You can see some details on the moon if you use a real tripod and are patient. The optics are very clear and the telescope works well even at night. No, this is not a night vision device, but it makes good use of the available light. Focusing is very easy. I find it (for me) more natural to have the focus knob in the 3 o'clock position. Unfortunately, the lens cap can get in the way. Speaking of the lens cap, the rear cap doesn't fit very tightly. Make sure you use the strap provided. When I first used it, I almost lost the rear lens cap down the drain. Oops. The tripod that came with it is junk. I put mine in the goodwill basket. I have several other tripods so I don't really need it. The phone mount is acceptable. If you have a large phone, the grip is so narrow that it is difficult to insert the phone. Also, the weight of the phone will throw everything out of alignment. See the crescent moon above in the first picture? That's what I mean. However, this is easy to fix. First, use a real tripod. Second, gently lift the phone from the bottom until the image is in the center. You still get a circle, but at least it's a full circle. In the second picture, the phone's camera is slightly enlarged. The circle disappears and you get a decent picture. None of the paintings have been color corrected by me. WYSIWYG Why 5 stars? Well, you can get a decent spotting scope with a phone mount for under thirty bucks. You can spend a lot more, but you can't get much more quality. Look, I have THREE telescopes and I'm a complete nerd when it comes to things like this. This is one of those cases where you don't have to spend a lot of money to get a decent product and enjoy it. Is it a celestial body? no But the Celestron isn't thirty bucks, so I'll rate it by its price.
