Review on 0656 Replacement Air Filter by Daniel Drury

Revainrating 3 out of 5

SO much bull leaf there!

Update: After 5000 miles the transmission still won't shift to the right and the fuel consumption increases dramatically with every acceleration. Mileage dropped to 18.5-19 mpg. Let's go back to the paper filter to see if it solves the problem. I will update when I have the result. update2: After 4000 miles on the WIX filter, shifting has stabilized and mileage is almost back to normal. It's very counterintuitive that more airflow would cause problems, but I'm one of those people who would rather believe data than what I want to believe. You can see from my initial comments below that I wanted to think this filter would be better. OK, first, first. There are MANY (really) ignorant people making claims about this filter. The dumbest of them make big claims and have no evidence to back them up. FACT: You will NOT damage your MAF sensor with filter oil if you follow the instructions. FACT: The filter does not have to be a perfect match for your old filter. ;s height. As long as the lid presses against the hole when you put it on, everything is fine. FACT: In today's cars, there is NO way to simply test the old filter, replace it with a new one, and run the test again. The engine control module "learns” your diving habits over time and as you switch from paper to this filter the modules will adapt over time. I did the REAL research. Very exciting and I encourage you to do the same if you are considering any of these. I replaced a fairly clean factory paper filter with this one. Replacing the filter was easy and made a huge difference to the engine performance of my Ram Promaster 2500 truck. The transmission in particular had to relearn how to shift. My first tank was 18mpg compared to an average of 20.4 for the last 20+ tanks. The second tank was 19.2 mpg. The third was 19.8. Fourth looks like 20.4mpg. Transmission still has occasional issues, but has largely stabilized. To me, that means the new filter will last no less than the old one. My best guess is I'll end up with around 21mpg. The 0.6mpg increase doesn't sound like much, but it's a significant 3% improvement. Another thing I've noticed is that the engine revs MUCH faster and at higher RPMs when I have to step on the gas from time to time. . This tells you that the YouTube ping pong video is indeed real, and this filter lets in MUCH more air than a paper filter.

Pros
  • ENGINEERED POWER: Advanced filter media deliver 50% more airflow than disposable paper filters for more power and acceleration. Clogged or dirty air filters can reduce your car's acceleration by up to 10%.
Cons
  • boring package
