Review on πŸšͺ Enhanced Black Tailgate Handle with Backup Camera for Toyota Tundra (2007-2013) by Master Tailgaters by Luca Washington

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Grainy, feels very light

This pen doesn't feel like it will last long. The handle bends when pulled. Image quality isn't as good as the $20 camera I installed near my license plate. My original tailgate handle started to crack (Tundra 2004) so I decided to give this one a try as it had the best camera angle for reversing in a trailer. Installation was easy, but since the wiring isn't laid out like my other camera, I had to run the new camera's video cable all the way to the front of the car and through the firewall. I point this out because many of the devices I've looked at have a short camera line with a cinch connection and you can simply replace it with an existing video line. I contacted Master Tailgater to see if they have a shorter cable connection but they said they didn't have such a thing. I would have thought it would be fairly easy to make a 4 or 5 foot harness instead of a 25 foot harness and sell it as an optional accessory for use with existing trails, but they stated that this was not possible be. make. The device seems to have quite a large response lag. When I reverse my truck the alarm will not activate unless I already have a Sony head unit on the 'reverse camera'. Switching the input on the device to the rear view camera when it is already in reverse gear, does not record the video signal. I have to put the car back in park and then put it back in reverse. I would think it is related to my main unit, except my $20 camera turned on with no issues. Night Vision PQ is about the same as Day Vision. Grainy and boring. I'm giving this 3 stars because it's definitely better than no rear view. Replacing the lock from my old handle to this one was easy and straightforward. All in all, I wouldn't buy it again, but I wouldn't either. Also, don't bother to return it. except that my $20 camera turned on with no problem. Night Vision PQ is about the same as Day Vision.
