Some machining required

First of all, after assembling the product is fine. However, I only paid 24.99 in the sale, which is 50% less than the regular price. I wouldn't pay more. I want to pay less. Had I known I would have to do the fabrication myself I would have looked elsewhere or just used a foldable two-step ladder. 1) The metal is raw and looks rough. No coating other than that removed at the factory and graphite grease may have been used in bending and sizing. It's picky, but for an item that typically sells for $49.99 I'd expect powder coated or at least nickel plated tubing. 2) The pre-drilled hardware holes just didn't match. They were not drilled at 90° to the front or back of the pipe and therefore did not line up with the molded holes in the supplied plastic steps. The front and back holes didn't line up, so the hardware didn't go through. They have been moved either vertically or horizontally. One of the tubes appeared to be slightly oval when pierced, so it didn't fit the corresponding tube. 3) The holes were oval and rough. Parts could not be joined without polishing the metal. I ended up having to use a clamp to bend the crushed tube back into a round shape and re-drill the holes on all the tubes to a larger (5/16) diameter, pre-assembled so all the holes matched. The holes in the steps were left alone. Two diameters of hardware were supplied. 4 nuts and bolts of each size, although the larger had standard nuts and the smaller had lock nuts. Smaller fittings could not be used as the molded insert in the plastic steps required a larger nut. This minor hardware was added for no reason that I can install. 2 stars because it serves it's purpose but I won't buy it again.
