Review on Great Neck Saw SS3 Starter by Stanley Redline

Not the best design

My Great Neck screw starter came with a slightly different grip, black and red (not clear and red). The tip of this tool isn't very sharp so you really need an awl to make the indentation first or it will never bite. What's really bad is that the threads of the screws are spaced apart like a machine screw and not like a wood screw. They are too close together so don't bite the wood unless you give them a long spin. Finally, when you insert the item into the wood and then unscrew it, the hole will not line up with the thread of the screw. So does it really save you time and effort? They used to supply starters in cheap little tool kits that you could buy for a few dollars. You won't find them anywhere else. They worked correctly. This is not the case, but that may be due to the lack of alternatives. I've been looking for a decent one for several years - you won't find it anywhere.
