When I first tried this plug I did as directed. I left the ends of the wires insulated and separated 1-1/8" of my two core cable and then fully inserted the two wires into the connector as shown in the picture and then closed the connector. Quite difficult to close. In the end I used my vise to clamp it in place then took it out of the vise and it opened up a bit but I used the screw provided to tighten the connector then I connected the other end to the light and plugged it in. Not a lightweight. I then checked with my meter and I only got about 12-14 VAC glowing and not nearly the 115-120 VAC I should have been getting.I took it apart and everything looked fine, the wires were whole straight and yes they still had insulation.. I decided to try stripping 1/16 to 1/8 inch of insulation on each wire, reinserting it all the way and terminating the connector with the mi to close the supplied screw. Plugged in the light and it worked great. So I recommend removing a very small amount of insulation so you have good contact. This is where you really need good wire stripping tools so you only strip a very small amount of insulation. Also, use something to close the connector before screwing in the supplied screw. I used a vise.
