When we took the leash out of the bag for the first time, it smelled so bad that we couldn't keep it at home. It had a very strong musty smell - like it had been in a damp basement for years! Tried to ventilate the street - did not help. Washed in a strong detergent - did not help. Finally, we soaked it in Febreeze overnight, rinsed, and let it dry. It still stinks, but we can take it. In terms of function, we have 8 pounds. Long haired Chihuahua. It feels too bulky for her, and I found it doesn't pull on and off around her neck as easily as you pull and release on the leash. Maybe that's because of the thick fur on her neck. It won't work to teach her not to pull if we walk with her. In general I am disappointed.
