I got a Hue Outdoor Motion Sensor and have been trying all day to get it to work without success. Connecting an outdoor sensor to the Hue app is easy and painless, but that's where the usability ends. First thing I noticed was that the ambient light sensor would get stuck at 1 lux no matter what light it was in. An internet search revealed that this is a known issue and one solution was to remove it from the Hue app, reset and add it back to the Hue app. This method didn't work for me. There's a software update coming out that should fix this, so I'll wait and see if it actually fixes this issue. The sensitivity parameter is also problematic. Hue's internal motion sensor has high, medium, and low sensitivity. The Hue outdoor motion sensor instead has a slider that gives you finer control over the sensitivity setting. The problem is that no matter how low you set this setting, the sensor is still too sensitive. Every time a car drives past my house, the sensor goes off. Even with the sensitivity setting set to its lowest setting, it will still fire. The sensitivity setting is the only option available to the user to reduce unwanted notifications. But it doesn't work. Depending on how far the sidewalk is from your home, this device will notify you of people and cars passing by. Update 03/14/19 A firmware update fixed the light sensitivity issue. So now the light sensor reports the correct values. A sensitivity issue remains, however, as it picks up people walking on the pavement and cars cruising down the street at the lowest settings. But in general, with the firmware update, the product works much better now. Update 03/19/2019 During the day I get a lot of false alarms from the motion sensor when it's sunny outside. The sensor detects shadows caused by the sun's movement across its field of view and believes this to be a person's movement. This triggers the motion sensor. Again, adjusting the sensitivity isn't very helpful. Reducing the sensitivity doesn't help. You just have to play with different placements to minimize these false positives. However, the temperature reading appears to be accurate.
