Cotton is lightweight but far from transparent/translucent. It feels very soft (almost like a good flannel) and will stretch and then shrink back into shape. When I washed them they are not wrinkled at the waist. The waistband and legs are strong but do not impede movement. Don't worry about them going up or slipping down. that's a big win. The only negative (I don't care but some like it) is that the legs offer a strong panty line. Don't wear them under light leggings. On the other hand, DO NOT DRIVE UP OR DOWN!
