This was my first foray into anything from Vornado and first impressions after the first two hours of use were just as good. Firstly, this is a personal heater, let's understand. The device handled the cold that usually surrounds me when working at my desk, and I was pleasantly surprised at how cozy and comfortable I felt for the first few hours of use. Let's talk about noise. I can hear it working, but I find it quite a pleasant sound, and there's no cruise control, just one. It definitely makes white noise. Some may find this unit quite noisy compared to the larger and more powerful Vornado heaters. Set the heater switch to the middle position and it will work as a fan. The airflow is good and gentle, providing a soft yet comfortable airflow. I was fine with less airflow because my desk fan was sometimes too powerful. Let's talk about power. You have three options: fan only, low heat, and high heat. Low consumes 375 watts, high - 750 watts. (750 is the low setting for pricier models where 1500w is the max.) The 375 only feels a little warm which I tried for a few minutes and switched to the 750 option which I like better. Not too hot and not too cold, it was just perfect. It's advertised as being cool to the touch, which I hadn't thought of, so it doesn't get hot on the sides, but it does get noticeably warmer, so don't cover all the way around. The heat output is perfect and I would recommend this product to anyone who wants to make a small space a little cozier. Bottom line, Vornado is famous for doing a great job of circulating heat around you, not just around you as it uses Vortex technology. It was also a pleasure to use as just a standard single speed fan. If you're looking for a great example of what this company is all about, start with the entry-level product line. And the last. Out of the box it has that new "vinyl" smell and the power cord is very stiff but very well constructed. I'm not sure how long it will take to get rid of the new vinyl smell while running, but I'm sensitive to certain smells and it gave me a bit of a headache and queasy stomach the first time. a few hours while he worked.
