Review on πŸ“š Revolutionize Learning with the LeapFrog LeapStart Interactive Learning System by Raysean Forth

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Much prettier and easier to use than previous models - a hit but not without its flaws

Edit: I finally gave this to my 3 year old and he really likes it. I'm surprised he's sitting and playing with it so patiently. It took him a while to figure out why only some of the touch points caused an image to appear on the screen, but then he took it as a game to try and find them (but now he's obsessed with why he played Rubble in Paw sees). Patrol but not Chase - because we're using the initial pre-package that comes with it). He likes to hear sound even when there is no picture. I'm downgrading it from 5 to 4 stars because I assume it won't be of interest to him for as long as other products at the same price, but I could be wrong. Initial review: I'm basing this 5 star review solely on my own enjoyment of playing with the device while my 3 year old is sleeping - and I'm (as he said) "loaded" on caffeine so it could be coffee act. but it's really a much more attractive and practical model than the previous Leapfrog Leapstart (but not perfect). I also wanted to point out that I paid fifty for it, which seems fair, but I bet it will be forty one day. :) Pros: (1) The "3D" function is really interesting and cute. It's not exactly 3D (which I think is a good thing, since it's meant to hurt kids' eyes?), but it definitely feels like Scout and Violet are coming over to play with the stylus. At the same time it's not so electronic that I feel like giving my 3 year old a tablet. There aren't too many animations and they work well to reinforce the content (Numbers - you hear the number 3 and see the number 3 on the screen). (2) I like the grip of the device. Because of the handle, it looks like a small mini briefcase. (3) It is smaller, more streamlined and easier to use than previous models. (4) You don't need a screwdriver to open it - a coin is enough! HOORAY! (5) My son thinks the animations hear him and talk to them which makes me laugh. Cons: (1) The 3D image appears only occasionally, depending on where you press the stylus. There doesn't seem to be much animation, but I think that's intentional because it would defeat the purpose of the book element. but when I use it I always look for animation and look forward to seeing it so I can see how it can be distracting for some kids. (2) As usual, loading is a bit painful. content, but definitely much faster than previous models. (3) It comes without batteries and is not rechargeable. (4) It only stores about 5 books at a time. I personally love it, but I've always loved LeapFrog products (except for their tablets, which aren't great). I will update this if my son feels different but I think it will be great for road trips. Super cute and really educational. If you only had fifty and wanted to buy this or a cheap Kindle, you'd end up getting more out of the Kindle, but it seems more educational and I'm definitely glad I bought it. I really enjoy seeing how excited my son is and playing with him myself. :)
