Review on πŸ”’ D-Link DSR-250: High-Speed 8-Port Gigabit VPN Router with Dynamic Web Content Filtering by Simo Ramsey

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The GUI interface is just useless, good luck with port forwarding or anything useful.

I've been trying to port forward for years and have given up every time. Modem in bridge mode, latest firmware and half a dozen different manuals SPECIFIC to this router. NOTHING WORKS. The forwarded port is always closed regardless of the settings. All the options on the screen are vague and at best split into two different sections of the interface to accomplish the same task. For example, set up a service, go to another section, set up a firewall rule. (Good luck configuring your QoS settings, that's at least five settings in different areas.) If you have two or three saved settings, you won't be able to update the original setting without deleting it from the other two. Cannot be disabled, must be deleted or recreated. Error messages do not have the correct place names to change settings. Refers to it with one name in the user interface and with a different name in error messages. Finally, I'm fed up with Plex not working outside of my network and online games having connection issues. Flipped my entire home network setup to disable this router. MAC/IP binding, port forwarding, etc. can be set up in about twenty minutes on a cheap modem from an ISP. Never buy one of these routers again.
