Not just plug and play. Do your homework. YouTube is your friend.

This router is a "Business Class" product, which means that you should have a little understanding of routers and networks when purchasing it. The main thing that confused me is the "certificate" issue in Firefox (and other browsers). When you log into the router to configure it, you must accept its security certificate, which is then associated with an IP address. If you change the router's IP address (generally), you'll need to manually remove the old certificate from Firefox or you'll neverโ€ฆ

Pros
  • An Absolute Legend
Cons
  • Communication with Seller

Despite some technical and networking knowledge, I was frustrated with some settings. After configuring DHCP as I wanted, I was able to ping many websites but could not view them in any web browser even though all web filters were disabled. The only way I've found to enable web browsing is to set web filtering to _ON_ but then set the default policy to allow. I had a similar experience with App Control, although there is no default App Control so I have to explicitly allow whatever I use. Iโ€ฆ

Terrible UI, buggy, can't remove admin user or change their password

Setup UI is excruciatingly slow. It keeps saying my session has expired and logging out. You cannot delete the administrator account or change its password. Often the next page in the interface was a blank screen and you had to repeatedly click the refresh button until it randomly appeared. Entering multiple DHCP mappings is an excruciating exercise - it took me a full 30 minutes to enter 10 mappings because it kept logging out and showing me a blank screen, the popup didn't move and overlaidโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Fair price
Cons
  • Reliable

Direct instructions from Dlink on how to implement a VPN are nowhere to be found. You are forced to rely on information on various websites and YouTube. The detailed guide is appropriate for a specific configuration function, but is not sufficient to explain how to successfully configure a router and clients to implement VPN on multiple types of client machines. work with IOS, Android and Windows clients only to find that data throughput is horrendously slow. When using the internet on a remote

Perfect right out of the box.

We had a reliable 10/100 router. The max speed I could ever get was 45Mbps. That was pretty good and good enough for me. I ended up upgrading my modem (Arris, w/wifi, Comcast), the connection stayed the same, but I knew it was better to use a faster cable modem. The 10/100 router was the bottleneck in the network. Switched to this 8 port router, enter 10/100/1000 (gigabit) and the internet speed exceeded 170 Mbps. (on all connected machines) I updated the firmware, although I did some diggingโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Available in white only

I've been trying to port forward for years and have given up every time. Modem in bridge mode, latest firmware and half a dozen different manuals SPECIFIC to this router. NOTHING WORKS. The forwarded port is always closed regardless of the settings. All the options on the screen are vague and at best split into two different sections of the interface to accomplish the same task. For example, set up a service, go to another section, set up a firewall rule. (Good luck configuring your QoSโ€ฆ

No OpenVPN support in routers

I don't want to slow down the entire network through multiple devices in the VPN, was hoping that this would be the answer to that problem, but it's just another problem. New firmware, on the latest hardware version (Hardware A4 and Firmware 3.12_WW), the device does not support the current OpenVPN client standard (using a single configuration file). The $14 unit I replaced with this purchase is closer to engineering standards, has better tech support, and is more stable. I'm trying to set upโ€ฆ

dsr250 - port forwarding and static route not working

I am using dlink dir825 (with the latest dlink firmware) as a gateway to my home LAN between my ISP's gateway and my LAN. Dir 825 worked great except it couldn't do static LAN routing (it's limited to static WAN routing). I bought a dsr-250 to do static LAN routing. My home LAN uses only dlink products (16 IP cameras, 3 wireless AC routers in addition to dir825, 2 additional dir825 with dd-wrt providing VPN service and dlink switches). .) I run a Linux server with DNS and web servers. I have aโ€ฆ
