I am using dlink dir825 (with the latest dlink firmware) as a gateway to my home LAN between my ISP's gateway and my LAN. Dir 825 worked great except it couldn't do static LAN routing (it's limited to static WAN routing). I bought a dsr-250 to do static LAN routing. My home LAN uses only dlink products (16 IP cameras, 3 wireless AC routers in addition to dir825, 2 additional dir825 with dd-wrt providing VPN service and dlink switches). .) I run a Linux server with DNS and web servers. I have a lot of experience with this technology, especially with dlink products. After installing the latest firmware 2.11_ww (I had an A3 hardware version - finding the A3 firmware on the dlink site wasn't easy) I programmed the dsr-250 the same as the dir825, making changes for Differences have been made in the router interface. I use extensive port forwarding for cameras, DNS and web servers, and some VPN servers and clients.) It's a little tricky, but not extreme. After turning on the dsr250 with all settings according to dir825 (I didn't add static routing at first) the block worked correctly except for the port forwarding. "Standard Services" FTP and DNS worked fine. However, the standard http service did not work reliably. When I downloaded the dsr250, http (access from outside the home) worked for a few minutes, then stopped working until I rebooted. It will then do the same thing - run for a few minutes and then stop (this problem only occurred when connecting to http from outside the home). None of the custom services I programmed (mainly for IP cameras and VPN access) worked. They never worked. I programmed them the same as for other dlink products and for the ISP gateway. I also checked my settings against the dlink web guide for port forwarding as well as other guides I found online. My settings matched every link I searched for. It just didn't work. I tried several settings and nothing worked. Without changing any settings I plugged the dir825 gateway back in and removed the dsr250 and everything immediately worked as it should. Obviously a problem with the dsr250. Then I tried setting up 1 static LAN route. When I first set it up, it worked straight away. After the first restart of the dsr250 it didn't work anymore. I've tried several things including deleting and re-entering the static route. It never worked again. I worked on it 3 days in a row - about 30 hours. I tried hard reset, flashed firmware, then hard reset, reloaded saved configuration files. Nothing will fix a detour or static route. It would be good to mention that when accessing the dsr250 webpage with ie11 (windows 10) the webpage's certificate was invalid so I had to override the exception every time I accessed the dsr250. . Nothing bad, but not good either. I think the firmware on this product is not ready for prime time. It's unreliable and I think it's buggy based on my observations, particularly with HTTP port forwarding and static routing. I still need a device that does static LAN routing.
