Review on ๐Ÿ”Œ Streamlined Google-Compatible Smart Outlet: Easy Setup Required by Justin Metz

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Not for those thinking about safety.

Update 02/01/2021: I seem to have made a mistake in my original review. If you change the WiFi name or password, you can reconnect the device without losing all settings. The key is not to select "Reset device" when reconnecting, which I did. It will then go straight to the Wi-Fi setup section without losing names or schedules. However, this isn't mentioned anywhere in the manual (it's just a little map telling you how to use the app). I needed to gather information from users on the Kasa forum and it took me a while to find it. So I'm increasing my rating but still adding 1 star so this isn't documented in the user guide or app. Original Review: I bought a TP-Link extension cable and it worked so well and was so easy to set up that I bought another one and this single outlet plug. It was very easy to set up and works great. So why such a low score? Well, if you make changes to your WiFi, such as B. changing the password, SSID name, or changing to a hidden SSID, each device will stop working and will need to be factory reset and then reinstalled. You will eventually lose all device names, groups, schedules and scenes. For security reasons, I regularly change my WiFi password once a month and now have to reconfigure 13 sockets every month. This is totally unacceptable. Currently there is no way to go to the device settings and update the password or change the network name. If you don't change something regularly, that's fine, but for those of us who are security-conscious, it absolutely stinks. Until they release a firmware update or app to fix this problem I won't be getting them again. I was planning on getting some more extension cords and single plugs, but until this issue is resolved, forget it. It's too tedious to recreate them every month. I can only assume that the rest of the TP-Link products do the same since they all use the same application. How do they bring out this and other products with such a big mistake about me?
