Review on ๐Ÿ“ป KA123 Compact AM FM NOAA Weather Band Radio by Justin Abrams

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good FM/AM/NOAA radio in shirt pocket with LED lights

I have two of these at the moment. The one I bought last year works fine. Decent (but not great) reception and sound in a pocket-sized radio. The speaker is tiny because the device is tiny. The control buttons and digital display worked great with occasional use. There is no headphone jack, it would be nice if there was one. The block is vertical. Has a tip. Battery life is decent. Typically these units receive 2 of the 7 NOAA stations at a given location in the US (most locations are only within range of 2 NOAA stations, each station operates on a different frequency). This would be a good and economical choice for a picnic/hiking/camping transmitter. The antenna extends a few inches (the Revain photo shows the antenna in the retracted position). Aside from the lack of headphones, there are two things to note: This radio doesn't claim to be waterproof. I haven't tried it, but I didn't expect it to work after being submerged underwater or getting wet in heavy rain. Photos than in real life. In the photo, the body looks "rubberized" or "armored", but in reality the plastic is hard and somewhat brittle. If it were dropped on a concrete floor I would expect the plastic to shatter and the radio to shatter into pieces. You're not buying a heavy-duty walkie-talkie for this price (at least not this model). I said I have two of these walkie-talkies. I bought one last year and it still works perfectly. I bought a second one as a backup and when it arrived today it doesn't pick up any of the NOAA stations just interference, although the identical radio next to it picks up the stations just fine. So this one is defective or faulty. Quality Control Issues? These are decent little radios for day trips at a low price. However, note that you may have to return the first one and re-order to get a working one. And they're not as strong as they seem. I would give 4 stars for my working unit (subtracting due to missing earphones and cracked plastic) and 0 stars for the defective unit that I am returning.

Pros
  • This is great
Cons
  • Some bugs
