They work much better with a smarter sound

Ordered these to replace several that broke down after a few years. The originals were fitted by the interior door manufacturer and were fine, but after about a year they failed due to what I thought was a very strong spring in the ball joint. The ball became pitted and pierced the striker plate very significantly. They also made a loud click when opening/closing. I don't remember seeing black anodized so I bought these brass colors and installed them. only lightly marks the locking plate. My only caveat is that the bolt holes on the strike plate are less than 40mm apart, as far as I remember the papers that came with it also said what the old strike plate was like. This locking plate was 42.5mm apart, the difference being the width of the set screw; So they couldn't just drill another hole. However, the external dimensions are the same and are installed as a replacement, the screw goes in crookedly. BUT, the strike plate isn't failing, it's the ball assembly in the door. It is easily replaced by screwing the ring in a little, then prying it out with pliers or a vise, and then driving a new one in with a hammer. So if you are installing for the first time; this is a 5 star product; If it is a replacement, simply replace the ball assembly and discard the butt plate. I am attaching a picture of the old (black) board and the new one where I took a felt tip pen to mark on a piece of paper where the holes were on each board.

Pros
  • Used to keep swing doors closed with a hidden locking system
Cons
  • Does not fit all
