Review on 🥔 Progressive Deluxe Potato Cutter for Efficient Meal Prep by Maria Hase

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Easy to use and effective, all my adult kids want it!- UPDATE

UPDATE 3 years of use (today 10th December 2014) and some of it finally died. I cut a very dense potato with my large roaster and broke two of the blades by pressing down hard. The little knife cutter still works great. I actually like smaller potatoes, so I guess I'll refrain from ordering a new one, even though it's about $5 less today. ---------------- UPDATE 2 years of use: The only downside so far is that after a ton of use the plastic retainer that holds the blade in place becomes loose and can break. I just put a small piece of paper towel where the tab was supposed to be to hold it in place and kept banging on those potatoes! I still rate this inexpensive mid-sized kitchen tool highly. NOTE: NO, I repeat NOT, for dense yams, carrots, anything really dense, etc. If you want french fries or something dense for french fries, buy an expensive commercial quality french fries cutter. ------- -------- I bought my progressive large cutter a year ago. Since then I've made french fries with guests and family members several times. Everyone who sees it is impressed and wants to buy it, especially when they hear how cheap it is. FIRST VIDEO REVIEW of a man with a stuck potato MAKES IT WRONG. You will not squeeze the handle slowly. it's just a quick movement - hit! My video shows a very large baked potato. Smaller potatoes are even easier. Also, I used a shoelace knife, which offers more resistance than a larger frying blade. This makes it even easier to cut larger fries. Aside from being fries I think you need to know the following: Pros: 1. Inexpensive so if it breaks who cares? It's mostly fun and a great way to get someone to "watch" you cook to help! 2. It really works and potatoes are easy to cut (wife and daughter have no problem).3. It comes with two sizes of cutting blades, one for small diameter fries (close to strings), the other for regular cut fries. If you want to make french fries quickly, use smaller pieces of french fries, they cook in just a few minutes! Easy to disassemble and clean.5. There is a suction cup on the bottom to help keep it in place. It works fine but remember it's not meant to be like gorilla glue let's get real! At the time of writing, conservatively speaking, I'm willing to bet that I've sliced at least THREE 10-pound bags of potatoes in one year. I've never seen anything like this at Wal-Mart. Not sure why. You would think this would be a staple on their kitchen island. Ordering through Revain is quick and easy.8. Slicing potatoes requires medium pressure. If you are working with large, dense potatoes that seem to require a lot of pressure, STOP to make it easier, see CON#1 below. 9. If you love and buy seasoned fries with skin, be careful! You will be busy. Kon: 1. It has plastic parts, so don't be too aggressive with a big, tight potato. A quick hit is enough. If not, reduce the size of the potatoes. *** Really big potatoes like _Bake-Size_ (in my video example) sometimes need some trimming at the end to shorten and/or cut them in half (long ways) as they might be too wide to fit in a knife (as I did with potato number 2). I'm talking about a HUGE potato, not a medium-sized, russet, everyday potato. Medium potatoes work well.2. If the potato is THICK, regardless of the size of the potato, it helps to cut off the very end of the potato so the natural juice acts as a lubricant to help the potato slide easily through the knife (if you notice my second potato was even faster) . If you try to be the Incredible Hulk on this thing, you're going to break it. It's definitely not meant for commercial kitchens, but it's perfect for a casual kitchen. I ordered 3 more tonight as last minute gifts.

Pros
