Review on K&N KN-171C Motorcycle Oil Filter: High Performance for Harley Davidson & Buell Motorcycles - Compatible with Synthetic & Conventional Oils by Adam Davidson

I bought this filter for my Fat Boy because it ended up with a 17mm hex head for easy removal and I'm glad it did I did that. When it came time to remove the stock HD filter, I didn't have the right oil filter tool. Yes, I have two filter removal tools - one that grips the can with canvas tape and one that slides on the end like a socket on a nut - but due to tight tolerances, neither will fit the Harley. The heavy duty oil filter is pressed against the engine about a quarter of an inch so there is no room to work. I had to drill holes in my HD filter and then stick a screwdriver through the holes to rotate it. Needless to say, oil has disappeared everywhere. Harley wants you to buy their oil filter tool, but I say poof. That hex nut at the end of the filter is just awesome. This allows the oil filter to be removed with a ratchet and nut and I look forward to it the next time I change the oil.
