Review on Brushed Nickel πŸ’§ Grohe Rotaflex Metallic Hose by Matt Wigfall

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Grohe is still a good product; Beware of fakes!

Never in my life would I have thought someone would make counterfeit Grohe shower hoses but I got 2 hoses, one from a third party and the other which is sold direct by Revain and costs 70% more, and the third party is clearly a fake. I suspect a lot of the bad reviews are because the reviewers received fakes, especially if they bought from third-party sellers. Like other reviewers, I received a replacement for a broken Grohe shower hose from a third party. The broken one was used for 9 years with multiple showers a day. When it arrived I was very disappointed with the weakness. Upon closer inspection I found a typo on the back of the packaging where it says "shpwer" instead of "showers". That tells me I might have a fake, but I have no other point of reference. So I took my chance and ordered another one, which is sold directly by Revain and is significantly more expensive. Having 2 hoses in my hands I can clearly say that one of them is fake and the real one is MUCH better. and also check yours) There is also a photo with a typo. Here are the differences from what I can tell * Packaging - As I said, the fake has a typo on the back. On the front, the original has much sharper graphics. My guess is that the fake is probably a scan of the original and used a lower quality printer. The clarity of the print is evident when comparing them side by side. The fake also has screw-on plastic plugs on both ends to keep the threaded hose cap from falling out - more on that later. * Weight and length - the real one is almost 25% heavier than the fake (388g vs. 311g minus the plastic case which probably weighs a few grams). The contrast is striking when I held them. If you look at the photo where the two ends are different lengths, yes the real one is a bit longer too. nothing to hold the hose's threaded plugs in place and it just falls off the ends. The real one has rubber grommets on both ends, not only to hold the caps in place but more importantly to seal the connection. When I pocketed the fake, only one end leaked no matter how much teflon tape I used or how hard I tightened it. Tighten a little with the real one and voila, it's sealed. Ribbon is not required. Also, if you look closely at the stamped logo on the ends of the hoses, the fake is light, uneven, and with the wrong aspect ratio. for $7 (for a shower that will be renovated soon) and feel that the quality is almost the same as the fake, but the fake is 5 times more expensive. Grohe is still a good quality product and there can be good sellers trying to sell their items at a low price. I hope the pictures help you distinguish this from other unscrupulous sellers trying to scam people. As for the fake shower hose, it's back - thanks to Revain for the free return.
