Review on Industrial Grade Waterproof Solder Seal Wire Connectors Kit - Includes 100 Heat Shrink Terminals For Automotive And Marine Electrical Wiring Projects by Karl Swift

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I think there great

I was a little skeptical to try these after reading just a variety of reviews, and the 1 stars made it seem like.well you can read them. Since I HATE the size of regular butt connectors after scrimping them (especially if you have 4 wires bunched together that need to be connected), and then trying to fit a heat shrink tube over all of that.I decided to give it a try anyway. I have only used the smallest ones so far (I had 22 gage wire) to hook up my Halo lights within my offroad lights on my JK. I love the fact that when these are attached to your wires, it's barely bigger than the wire itself. I love that. The type of heat gun I used was the mini DREMEL gun with it set on the lowest setting you can. At this setting you still need to be careful not to overheat the heat shrink and have the wires protrude thru the heat shrink. After I have attached all wires (4 in this case), I then can easily find a heat shrink size that will fit over them, and the original wire bundle on each end and it look good and clean. The reason I rate these a 4 star is because even after taking very careful care not to overheat and have wire push thru the heat shrink.I just wasn't that comfortable heat shrinking the entire area for a clean look without it shorting out. I did read that someone said these would be cloudy after they cooled off. Maybe it was the way I did it, but they were super clear after they cooled, which actually made it difficult to tell if wire was sticking thru and I couldn't tell by feel. To put my mind at ease, I added one wrap of electrical tape to each wire before heat shrinking the entire project. Overall and so far.I love'em. I've even been looking everywhere for other connectors with the same set up, but no luck so far!

Pros
  • These are so much easier and faster than traditional wire splice and solder method
Cons
  • The kit might require additional tools for proper installation
