Review on Enhanced Cooling and Protection for Raspberry Pi with MakerFocus Raspberry Pi Armor Case by Rob Dixon

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Exactly as presented

Well made case perfect for my RPI B3+. Notes: The fans are built into the top heatsink. What this does is it only provides short little fins for them to blow on. The air then exits at the side where there are several cooling fins. the other fins are not aligned at all to receive the airflow. The unit works well, it keeps RPI 3B+ at 100% (5 windows by default GLXGears) out of sync at around 52C, which is fine if it's below 60C when the GPU starts throttling. So he does what he says he will do. If you need hypothermia, don't wait. The included thermal pads are 1mm thick. On my UK built RPI, the two sides converge enough to make close contact with the thermal pads. I filed the support posts to give a tighter fit (0.25mm). This causes the thermal pads to press much harder, lowering the temperature by about 4 degrees. I can even slim down a bit more and just use thermal paste instead, I hate thermal pads, especially thick ones. It works great, if I were to buy another case like this I would probably get one with all the fins (and still thin, no fans built in) and then install a 40mm fan at the top of each side. This would give the OC more options.

Pros
  • Electronics
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
