This shirt is great for sun protection while swimming and at the beach. If you want to swim in it, take one size smaller. It should fit like a second skin so as not to create resistance in the water. If it's tight against the skin, you won't even feel it while swimming. I wore big ones for swimming and they are awful! Must be closed! If you're only wearing it for SPF, then wear what's comfortable for you. I usually have 6-8 and I sent the medium for the little one and I'm glad I did. I'm going to buy a long sleeve t-shirt of the same size so I have protection on all my arms.
