I bought the LT-10 to test fluorescent lights in a 16,000 square foot warehouse. ft. 177 T-8s were not burning and were airborne at an altitude of 10 feet. I walked the tester through the camp and found that OVER 150 of them had enough gas left in their hoses BEFORE I had to climb a ladder or aerial work platform. I then checked a few tubes before climbing on the aerial work platform each time so I didn't have to pace like crazy. The voltage meter isn't very useful as I couldn't tell if the LT-10 was measuring the LINE or LOAD side voltage of the ballast without opening the fixture. But if you've checked for gas AND checked the contacts, the problem MUST be in the ballast or wiring - so until then it's worth opening up. The MOST ANNOYING thing about the LT-10 is that it doesn't have an on/off switch like the "RED" brand tester. The voltage sensor beeped every time I put it in my pocket as it detected some form of electromagnetic interference. It would also be nice if the antenna could be retracted completely into the tester, but I think that would make the housing more cumbersome and less flexible for maintenance work in small workshops. All in all, this made replacing fluorescent lamps a straightforward scientific process and, of course, saved time testing completely failed lamps.
