Review on Ade Advanced Optics Brix Refractometer by Matthew Fadoul

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best Price Refractometer

Use this advanced optics refractometer to test the water content in honey. Works exactly as described and is very helpful in ensuring I have a low enough water cut for long term storage without fermentation. Takes the guesswork out of extracting honey. Sometimes uncapped honey is fine, and sometimes even capped honey contains more than 18% water. Allows me to mix 14% water content honey with around 17.5% water content honey to get the best overall moisture content. Calibration according to the instructions was not possible. Indication of using distilled water and a zero value. There is no zero on the scale. Had to calibrate using extra virgin olive oil as a reference. After recording the water percentage in the three honey samples extracted, I took the same samples to a friend with a much better refractometer to check the accuracy and it was less than 1% less, which I think is acceptable. I would definitely recommend this refractometer for the price and for non-scientific indications. Definitely a great tool for the backyard beekeeper.
