I had to buy a replacement combi brush for my 13 year old Miele S4 vacuum cleaner. The original brush had a narrow, retractable rubber skirt that covered the air gap between the back of the tool and the floor when the hard floor setting was selected. When switching to carpet mode, the apron was completely removed. Neat design but there was always a risk of someone accidentally using the tool on carpets with the rubber skirt extended. It happened to us, and the rubber on one side came loose. I sealed it with epoxy so we could keep using the brush, but after a few years it happened again and by now the rubber was pretty dry. This new model has been redesigned: there is no longer a rubber skirt. Instead, there are retractable stiff bristles all around. They perform the same function and eliminate the weak points of the previous design.
