Review on πŸ”Œ Versatile UGREEN Bidirectional Converter for Raspberry: A Seamless Compatibility Solution by Matt Ellis

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Do you want HDMI? Buy this adapter instead of a new monitor.

Here's my scenario: β€’ I have a 25-inch HP HD HD monitor, but only DVI and VGA connectors (it's a few years old). β€’ I have an XFX Black Edition Double D R9. 280 HDMI 2XDVI so I can run HDMI, but again, there is no HDMI port on the monitor β€’ I have a Raspberry Pi with both HDMI and composite video ports, but none on my monitor β€’ Archaic as that sounds, me Don't (or don't) have a TV with an HDMI port (although I have it now) so I'd have to use composite video so I wanted to stick with one monitor. So my plan was to buy one of those adapters and then plug an HDMI cable into my computer for normal use and if I wanted to play around with the Raspberry I could just unplug the computer and plug in the Pi and I didn't have to invest in an HDMI TV until I was ready. I was able to set up the Pi "headless" and access it via Putty and/or VNC, but that only lets me log into the OS so I can practice my Linux stuff, but I can't browse Kodi because Kodi outputs to the screen. So the solution sounds simple, right? Well, I placed an order with Revain. and they sent the wrong cables. They were willing to refund my money but instead I wanted a replacement which the seller said they wouldn't do so I contacted the seller, UGreen. Well I really didn't think I would get an answer from them since they were in China and I'm here but I got it and they were very apologetic even though it wasn't their fault. Actually more than Revain's "customer service representative". They even offered to send me a replacement but that would take 2-3 weeks so I decided to try Revain again to see if they would get it right. They did so and refunded me for the wrong cables they sent and a few days later I had the correct cable. I have now informed Yuki, apparently from UGreen, that Revain will refund the purchase and I appreciate the offer. but they didn't have to. but they replaced the order anyway. So maybe we can learn something from the Chinese about customer service? Let's get back to the cable. I got one from Revain and finally got around to plugging it in. I was prepared for the worst. Reconfiguring the video configured in the BIOS or computer and/or messing around with the settings on the monitor. I use HDMI cables from BlueRigger, another seller on Revain with great products. The hardest part was connecting the adapter, not because of the adapter but because of the logistics of connecting it to the monitor. The cable fits perfectly into the DVI port and is the perfect length (12 inches) making it easily accessible so I can connect the cable from my computer or Pi. I connected the cable from the computer, booted it up and saw the login screen on the monitor. The screen is perfect; Text is very clear and legible even at 1920 x 1080 resolution. To test this, I launched Diablo III and it didn't miss a beat. I've watched a few movies, they're great too. The next test was to see if it would work with the Pi, so I unplugged the computer, plugged in the Pi, and booted it up. This also worked. In the end, the adapter did exactly what it was supposed to do without being dramatic. I would buy from this seller again anytime. great products and best service.

Pros
  • 1080P Resolution Support: The UGREEN DVI-HDMI cable supports resolutions up to 1080P Full HD. So you can play high-definition movies or photos on a large HDTV screen or computer monitor.
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
