I have an old Border Collie x Staffy with arthritis that weighs over 50 pounds. Really too heavy for me to lift and it still hurts when I pick it up. I spent over $300 on a telescopic ramp from 4pets and he panicked every time. Dogs are not used to ramps, they are more familiar with stairs. These ladders are amazing: unlike the 4pets ramp, which was very heavy (I'm getting older too!), clunky to use and took up a lot of space in my car, this folding ladder weighs next to nothing and folds down with one hand tidy area. The mechanism is smooth and light, opens with a slight movement of the hand. It has a strap and clasp to attach it to your car's floor hatch latch, which keeps it stable. The ladder can be lengthened to make the steps less steep, or more vertical for a more powerful dog. I use the top handle harness to walk my dog up and down and he is so happy to be back at the park he loves. I cannot recommend this product enough. Someone really thought when they invented it.
