Review on Sony RM-AV2 πŸ“· Remote Controller for Sony Camcorders by Mary Deng

Why doesn't Sony make that clearer with the VG-20?

I wish I had heard about this accessory a year and a half ago when I bought a Sony NEX VG-20 camcorder. All I read about remote controls was that the wired remote requires a LANC connection, which the VG-20 doesn't have. I had no idea what the use of the "A/VR" port on the side of the camera was. Anyway, I recently found out about this item and read somewhere that it was used with the VG-20. For such a small investment I figured it was worth a try. It arrived today, I attached the tripod head, connected it to the camera and it worked! Now I can start and stop recording, take photos, turn the camera on and off without taking my right hand off the swing arm. This is a HUGE advantage when photographing wildlife, especially birds, which often only provide a brief photo opportunity. My left hand can be devoted to working with the lens, e.g. B. Focusing and zooming, and adjusting the exposure, while my right hand can simultaneously do the dual functions of panning/pointing the camera and starting/stopping the recording. I don't have to take my right hand off the pan pad to start shooting, and I often lose my subject in the process. That saves me valuable seconds. Since none of my Sony 18-200mm or Sigma 150-500 lenses are power zooms, the zoom button on this remote is currently useless, but that's to be expected. Only start/stop will make me happy!
